A young woman leaves South Korea to find happiness in the film adaptation of Chang Kang Myoung's novel Because I Hate Korea starring Ko Ah Sung. The opening film of the 28th Busan International Film Festival, Because I Hate Korea directed by Jang Kun Jae (A Midsummer's Fantasia) explores the meaning of happiness in modern society.

Gye Na (Ko Ah Sung), an office worker in her late 20s, suddenly comes upon an important realization: she is not suited for survival in the cold competition of Korean society. Her happiness must be elsewhere. She leaves her job, family and boyfriend behind to go to New Zealand by herself in search of her own happiness.
